In addition, he obtained state-of-the-art training in laser assisted refractive surgeries including LASIK and PRK at the Balboa Naval Medical Center.

Comprehensive Eye Care Specialist

Dr. Lin provides a full spectrum of diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. His interests include dry eye syndrome, thyroid eye disease, eyelid lesions, eyelid malposition, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vascular disease, macular degeneration, glaucoma, uveitis, and neuro-ophthalmic/optic nerve disease.

In addition to medical therapy, he routinely performs laser glaucoma procedures, eyelid procedures, and retinal injections to address those problems.

MULTIDISCIPLINARY APPROACH

Many eye problems can arise from issues affecting the entire body and require a multidisciplinary approach. Dr. Lin routinely collaborates with local colleagues in optometry, oculoplastic surgery, retinal surgery, pediatric ophthalmology, endocrinology, rheumatology, cardiology, and primary care physicians to offer a comprehensive spectrum of care.

It is our mission to take care of the whole person to help provide each patient with the best vision possible.

About Dr. Mark Lin

Dr. Mark Lin is a comprehensive ophthalmologist and eye surgeon in West Covina and the greater San Gabriel Valley. He treats most common diseases of the eyes, and has special interests in the retina, eyelids, neuro-ophthalmology, uveitis, and external eye diseases.

Dr. Lin was born here in the San Gabriel Valley to immigrant parents. He grew up in Taiwan for most of his childhood, and has fond memories of growing up with his siblings in his grandparents’ home.

Dr. Lin’s first encounter with the field of ophthalmology was in medical school, when a family friend underwent cataract surgery. He realized that being an eye physician and surgeon encompasses his main interests: taking care of the elderly, working with precise tools, and improving patients’ quality of life. By committing himself to providing the best care possible to his patients, he was able to mature these interests into passions.

Dr. Lin led and participated in various volunteering efforts throughout his career. While at UCLA, he piloted a local homeless youth outreach program focusing on early education. As a medical student, he helped lead the formation of a student-run clinic in Anaheim, and participated in an ultrasound outreach program in Vietnam. Locally, he engages with his community through vision screening events and educational seminars.

A southern California native, Dr. Lin believes in finding balance between wellness and work. He seeks the outdoors through hiking, snowboarding, and surfing. He enjoys traveling, and his favorite place to explore locally is the Sierra Nevada mountains

Education and Training

Mark Lin, MD

Dr. Mark Lin attended his undergraduate at UCLA, where he graduated summa cum laude in biomedical engineering and was elected to the Tau Beta Pi honors society. Between undergraduate and medical school, he joined a biofuel start-up company. While he enjoyed his brief time in engineering, his desire to directly work with people drew him to a career in medicine.

He attended medical school at the UC Irvine School of Medicine, where he was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha honors society. Additionally, he pursued a year of clinical research with the UCLA Stein Eye Institute Glaucoma Division. During his internship training, he took care of inpatients at the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, a safety net county hospital.

Dr. Lin completed his residency training at the Shiley Eye Institute at UC San Diego. In his final year, he served as Chief Resident and received the Lamont Ericson Award for outstanding patient care at UCSD. He took care of patients from the Greater San Diego area, the Veterans Affairs Hospital, and the Naval Medical Center. His surgical training focused on cataract surgery, astigmatism correction, presbyopia correction, Minimally Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGs), Laser-Assisted In Situ Keratomileusis (LASIK), photorefractive keratectomy (PRK), blepharoplasty, and other oculoplastics and cornea surgeries.
